The Year of the Dragon

Dear Friends:

The Year of the Dragon

The Year of the Water Dragon (often known as the Black Dragon)  begins on January 23, 2012. At this time, the flamboyant, magical Dragon will have his day.

The Date of the Year of the Dragon

You may think that this date is incorrect as it usually begins in February - and actually I have seen it as February 4 - but it really is January 23. It is the time also of the New Moon in Aquarius. The Chinese New Year’s Day is based on the Lunar Calendar which is indirectly based on the Sun’s cycle and it is set for the second New Moon after the December 21 Winter Solstice, i.e. January 23. They allow a full 28 day lunar cycle to occur after the Winter Solstice, before they consider the New Year to be fully birthed. This is why the Chinese New Year changes every year from the end of January to mid-February.

This New Year of the Black Dragon promises to be very exciting and fast moving. Although from a Western astrology perspective, things won’t really heat up until May and June. Also, from a numerological perspective we are in a Universal Five year which brings change and fast moving action. All in all, the best approach this year is to be alert to what’s going on around you, go with the higher flow of life and take opportunities quickly when they come. It is a time to pursue one’s dreams and is especially fortunate if your own birth Year is in harmony with the Year of the Water Dragon.

Compatibilities

The Dragon gets on well with the Rat, the Snake, the Monkey, the Horse, the Tiger and other Dragons, so these signs can do well in the Year of the Dragon. However, the Dragon has the hardest times with the Dog.

There is an immediate attraction between the Dragon and the Ox, but because they are both stubborn it is a relationship that’s hard to maintain. As far as the Rabbit, there are so many differences between them that it can be difficult; however, compromise is the key here. There’s usually some difficulty between the Dragon and the Goat though often an initial attraction which fizzles fast. The Rooster and the Dragon can get along and really like each other but living together can be full of arguments and disagreements. The Dragon and the Pig can be friends but the relationship can be irritating to those around them.

Elements

Since this is a Water year, those people born in a Wood year will generally fare better than others of their animal sign, while those born in a Fire one are likely to do worse. It’s also slightly negative for those born in an Earth year and mildly positive for Metal sign people. Finally, those born in a Water year will be in their element and do well if their animal sign is compatible with the Dragon.

Qualities of the Dragon

The Dragon is the mightiest of the Signs and therefore this can be the mightiest of all years – the great year of Destiny – 2012. Dragons symbolize strength, dominance, ambition. They like to live by their own rules and are often successful, driven and unafraid to take on challenges and risks. They’re passionate and do things in grand gestures. They are magnanimous and love to help others but rarely ever ask for help.

Dragons are most successful when they work alone and are often best left alone as they have magnificent tempers when riled – and steam can be seen spurting from their flared nostrils. However, being magical beasts, they are not be feared but loved, enjoyed and admired. Never disrespect these wonderful creatures. Love them and they will pick you up on their backs and take you to the far ends of the galaxy to the place of their magical dreams and high ideals.

The Dragon is a vigorous creature that can fly through the skies, filling them with its broad wingspan. They seem to command the skies and all the elements and breathe fire through their flared nostrils. It will be a vigorous year of strong health, abundant energy and fortune.

Blessings,
